PICYS’ Drug and alcohol Education and Support Service (DESS)
This service is for PICYS young people experiencing Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) issues and homelessness. PICYS’ DESS worker can support young people to address their AOD issues in a safe and supported environment. They do this with PICYS young one-to-one at PICYS, as outreach, and also through co-facilitating The SESH and other PICYS drop in and groups sessions. DESS will:
provide support for young people with AOD struggles to monitor, manage and/or reduce use and work on harm minimisation
support young people to start and/or maintain engagement with specialist AOD counselling
provide education about AOD use and harm reduction
be grounded in a trauma informed and relationship-based approach
promote personal recovery
recognise co-occurring AOD use and mental health issues
focus on whole of life and quality of life needs, taking a holistic approach
PICYS’ Drug and alcohol Education Support Service is funded by the WA Mental Health Commission
Our vision for young people is that they will have the oppotunity to make positive choices in their lives and realise their own potential.

PICYS acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land where we work and live, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We celebrate the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders of all communities who also work and live on this land.

PICYS is committed to embracing diversity, advocating for human rights, and eliminating all forms of discrimination through education and community connection. PICYS welcomes all people, is respectful of individuals and their identities, and stands with those facing discrimination. In current times it’s important specifically to acknowledge that Trans Rights are Human Rights and everyone has the right to health care that affirms who they are.
